Investment Scams Involving Chat Groups That Offer Fake Opportunities To Learn Investing
The Police have observed a rise in investment scams involving chat groups that purportedly offer free investment learning opportunities. In these cases, scammers typically lure victims through fake social media advertisements and invite them to WhatsApp chat groups where they pose as investment mentors. Within the groups, scammers provide purported investment advice and showcase fabricated trading profits shared by accomplices posing as successful investors. Victims are then directed to create accounts on fraudulent investment platforms or download fake investment applications before transferring funds to designated bank accounts. In some instances, victims were even instructed to hand over cash or gold to individuals claiming to represent the investment company. To gain victims' trust, scammers may provide initial returns, but victims eventually discover the scam when they are unable to withdraw their funds or when the scammers become uncontactable.

To avoid falling prey to these scams, be wary of investment opportunities received from online sources. Stay vigilant and exercise the necessary precautions to protect yourself. For more on investment scams, please visit the Singapore Police Force’s website here.
